Los Escuchamos
The Full Story
In July 2025, four middle-aged white women met with LeLan Dains, director of Emporia Spanish Speakers. They were concerned about ICE activity in their area and wondered if there were something they might do to help those feeling threatened.
LeLan shared with them that one of the services offered by Emporia Spanish Speakers (soon to become Kansas Spanish Speakers) was a consultation with an immigration attorney. The initial consult fee is $150. Legal fees for the entire process (assuming there is a path to citizenship) is $1700 per case.
Out of this conversation, Los Escuchamos was born. Los escuchamos means "we hear you." Through our donations, we tell the Spanish-speaking community that we hear them.
